This week, Kingston High School students participated in Substance Use Awareness week. During the week, they viewed videos on different substances and were provided education on the potential long and short term side effects. These videos came from www.drugfreeworld.org. Students had the opportunity to take daily quizzes and earn prizes. JH students were given the opportunity to sign up for an escape room where they worked together in teams in hopes of finding their "friend" before he went to meet up with other friends who were making poor choices regarding using substances. All teams succeeded. Every student in Kingston High School was offered a drawstring bag which included additional education on various substances.
A HUGE thank you to Joy Dise from TORC who taught the students during the escape room, Dr. Mark Hamed, MD, MBA, MPH, FAAFP, FAEMS, Medical Director at McKenzie Health System for creating an educational video for students on the differences between substance use and substance abuse, and short and long term effects from using substances, and to the Tuscola Prevention and Recovery Coalition for the donation for the drawstring bags for the students. All were greatly appreciated!
