Kindergartners in Mrs. Lester’s classroom investigated how pushes and pulls can change the speed and direction of falling objects. They designed solutions to protect “tiny town” from bouncing-ball boulders! The little engineers were busy at work!

Congratulations to our future educators!

KES is blessed with some great staff that pour into our kids each day, but this year we have been blessed with the opportunity to pour into some fantastic future educators as well. Erika Martin in Mrs. Lester’s kindergarten class and Zoey Hunter in Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Schank’s third grade classrooms were a great addition to our KES family this school year, and will both make great future teachers. Friday marked both of their last days, and our staff and students enjoyed celebrating with them!

There are currently 8 diagnosed cases of Measles in Michigan. With surrounding states and countries also reporting confirmed Measles cases, this comes as no surprise, especially in lieu of recent travel for spring break and easter. Measles is a highly contagious disease that is spread by coughing, sneezing or secretions in the air. In a room of 10 unvaccinated people, 9 are likely to contract measles. Although contagious, this disease is preventable by the MMR vaccine, which after 2 doses is 97% effective at preventing infection by the Measles virus.
Illness starts with cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, red watery eyes, and a high fever, followed by white spots in the mouth (Koplik spots) and then a red flat rash that starts on the face and spreads downward to the neck, chest, stomach and arms and legs. More serious complications can happen while infected or years later.
Contact your health care provider if you notice these symptoms. If your child has these symptoms, keep them at home and contact your health care provider. Per Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Michigan Department of Education (MDE) there are specific exclusions for students who contract measles.
